As our independent colleague Joe Saward revealed in his traditional Green Notebook in recent days, Jérôme D'Ambrosio is going to leave Mercedes. Arriving in March 2023 within the star brand, the former pilot of F1 was officially entrusted with the role of director of driver development, notably supporting Gwen Lagrue in this task. Despite everything, he was unofficially even more than that, since he had taken the role of right-hand man of Toto wolff, following the departure of James Vowles at Williams.

A future at Ferrari for Jérôme D’Ambrosio?

After only a year of collaboration at Mercedes, the Belgian is preparing to leave Brackley. The information has not been made official by the German team, but AUTOhebdo is able to confirm it. While he was seen as Toto's potential successor in the coming years, D'Ambrosio made the choice to leave on his own. According to our information, it was family and personal reasons which pushed the former main team of Venturi into Formula E to make such a decision.

It seems that his family is having great difficulty acclimatizing to British air. According to Radio Paddock, the latter could however bounce back at Ferrari, in a similar role with the academy. Quite close to Frédéric Vasseur, the Belgian could head the Ferrari Driver Academy, a role currently occupied by Jock Clear who is very busy with the many responsibilities he has within the Scuderia. By joining Maranello, D'Ambrosio would therefore arrive with a certain Lewis Hamilton.

Of course, life in Italy is more pleasant than life on the other side of the Channel with its unique climate, not to mention the British tableware!
