It's a Jos Verstappen quite upset who spoke after the Monaco Grand Prix. The father of Max Verstappen, who came 3rd in the Principality, believes that his son was not put in the best conditions during the race. According to him, Sergio Pérez was advantaged by Red Bull in the strategy when Max Verstappen should have been given priority.

«Red Bull had a good result, but at the same time exerted little influence to help Max take the lead. That he finished third was due to the mistake of Ferrari (…). The championship leader, Max, was not helped in this sense by the chosen strategy. It worked completely in Checo's favor. It disappointed me and I would have liked it to be different for the championship leader. Pérez actually won the race because of the previous pit stop. The team may explain this as a gamble, but they had already seen with gasly that intermediaries were the best option at the time. »

The Mexican was able to steal the lead of the race thanks to a premature stop for intermediate tires. Max Verstappen had modeled his strategy on that of Charles Leclerc, then leader before the stops. Jos Verstappen believes that if his son had used Pérez's strategy he could have won the race.

He therefore estimates that the reigning world champion has lost 10 points in the championship. “I think ten points were wasted on Max. Especially with the two retirements we've had this season, we need every point. Don't forget that Ferrari currently has a better car, especially in qualifying. »

Jos Verstappen also criticizes the FIA and Pirelli

Jos Verstappen also did not fail to criticize the FIA and the organization of the Monaco Grand Prix at the start. “I think they should have started on time. These days it seems like everyone gets stressed at the first drop of rain. Of course, it would have been a chaotic start to the Grand Prix and the teams would have had doubts about the best tire option. But that's what people want to see. In the end, they just waited. It turned out that there were also problems with the starting lights. The FIA or organization (…) must ensure that there is a reserve for such situations and that the equipment is in order. »

The former Dutch driver criticized the Pirelli tires which, according to him, are not suitable for rainy conditions. “I also find it incredible to see how little grip the drivers have on a wet track (…). Something should be done about this. They have to make sure the tires can handle three centimeters of water. We could do it at the time, during the rivalry between Bridgestone and Michelin. »
