Kimi Räikkönen does not save Ferrari

The Monza weekend in Italy started well with the F14 Ts in the immediate wake of the Mercedes W05 Hybrid from free practice. But and Fernando Alonso and Kimi Räikkönen warned against falling into false hopes. The pilots of the Team Ferrari were right, with a result well below the expectations of the thousands of fans who came en masse to support their protégés. In addition, the Spaniard's premature retirement due to an energy recovery problem left Räikkönen alone to defend the colors of the Prancing Horse. Iceman could not do better than 9th.

“We knew it would be a difficult weekend and today in the race we had proof of that,” said Räikkönen. Overall I was happy with the handling of the car and the balance was good, but we lacked speed on the straights and I didn't have much grip. As soon as I got close to a car in front of me, I lost downforce and the car slid in all directions. I think I did the best I could today, although unfortunately I didn't manage to get the result I would have wanted for our home race, for the team and all our fans . Now we have to think about the races to come and continue to work tirelessly, because we arrive at circuits that should better match the characteristics of our car."

With this very average result, Scuderia Ferrari loses its third place in the Constructors' championship to the benefit of Williams.
