Kubica doesn't know what to expect

The last European Grand Prix, in Valencia, saw Robert Kubica finish fifth, at the same time dislodging Nico Rosberg from sixth place in the championship. This weekend, the Pole returns to the Silverstone circuit, a track he likes.

“It's a very exciting circuit, which presents quite a few challenges, especially the first six or seven corners which are impressive behind the wheel of the F1 current, explains the driver of the R30 n°11. Most are taken almost to the hilt, or even to the hilt? Does it depend on the wind direction? and as soon as you exit one turn, you are already entering the next: the speed at which you can negotiate these turns is impressive. Of course, there is also the new section this year that I saw on the Internet and on TV for the MotoGP : It looks bumpy and very different from the previous version of the circuit, but I think overall Silverstone is a place that all drivers like because it demands 100% of the potential of an F1 car in the very fast corners. »

While at the start of the season all specialists spoke of a “Big Four” made up of McLaren, Ferrari, Red Bull et Mercedes, now Kubica is ahead of the two drivers from the star firm in the standings, and a driver from the Team, in this case Massa. Constantly progressing, its car could she allow him to go and find Fernando Alonso on which he is no longer 15 points behind?

“We were very close to the Ferraris in the qualifying session in Valencia, even if we were not 100% satisfied with the way it went, continues the former member of the BMW team. However, I think we all had a little trouble during this session. In the first part of the race, I was behind Felipe Massa and we were slightly slower than him, but things can change. Mercedes also struggled in Valencia and we could see that some cars had ups and downs in terms of performance over the weekend. It is therefore difficult to make a judgement. Silverstone is totally different from Valencia and even Canada, and the last time we raced on a similar circuit was in Istanbul. Since then, many teams have made big developments, including us. So we have to wait and see. »

Impressively, Robert Kubica keeps a cool head. The results obtained since the start of the year already seem to exceed expectations. For now, this tactic has paid off. So there is no reason to change. But at a time when transfer rumors are starting to emerge for next season, it is certain that Kubica will wait for some time. Renault F1 team that he proves to be capable of providing him in 2011 with a single-seater capable of fighting at the forefront. And that necessarily involves the continued progression of its R30 in the hierarchy for this second half of the season.
