Kvyat hired as a reservist for Alpine

A Russian chases another on the side ofAlpine F1 Team. Present as a reserve driver when the French team was still called Renault, Sergey Sirotkin leaves his place to Daniil Kvyat for 2021. The former protégé of the sector Red Bull, aged 26, will evolve more precisely as a third driver.

Not preserved by Alpha Tauri At the end of his sixth season in Formula 1 at the end of 2020, the 3 GP2013 Series champion was confirmed in his new shadow role by Laurent Red, the new Director General ofAlpine since January 11, 2021.

“The team has achieved great performances in previous years and is very advanced technologically,” he explains. The development has been effective, and I wish to contribute my usefulness to this dynamic. I will try to take my experience on and off the track to help develop the A521 and future cars as well.

As a reservist, you must maintain good physical condition and I am very curious to participate in all areas of the team's functioning. »

This transfer reflects the need for Formula 1 teams to have a strong reserve player who can be counted on in the event of the unavailability of a starter. In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, positive tests of drivers ahead of a Grand Prix can have catastrophic consequences. Also, a carefully considered emergency solution is more effective than the last minute search for a freelancer, as the episode proved Nico Hulkenberg with Racing Point at Silverstone last summer.
