“The current dynamic is unacceptable” for Ferrari

The pace shown in testing on a wet track and in qualifying showed some signs of hope for the Team Ferrari between last Friday and Saturday in Hungary.

But the harsh law of racing brought the Italian brand back to reality with a sixth and an eleventh place for Sebastian Vettel et Charles Leclerc at the end of the Grand Prix yesterday afternoon.

“It was an extremely disappointing Sunday and the result is very difficult to swallow, underlined Mattia Binotto, head of Ferrari Sports Management. In qualifying we got the most out of the car in its current configuration, but that wasn't the case in the race. Being taken for a ride is very painful for us and our fans.

Now we are returning home after this very long journey and we must try everything we can to improve ourselves as much as possible in all areas. Everyone will have to analyze their work and have the courage to change course if necessary, because the current dynamic is unacceptable. There is no other solution to remedy this situation. »

Performing better throughout the three days than his Monegasque teammate, Vettel believes that a more aggressive strategy could have paid off at the start of the race, with a clear loss of time in the pit lane. “ It was a better performance compared to my first race in Austria, comments the four-time world champion.

However, in the first laps, we could have done a little better if I had dared to use slick tires on the 3rd lap instead of the 4th. I actually lost a lot of time having to let other cars pass in the pitlane before I was released. But in the end, fifth or sixth place was the most we could have done. »

Leclerc struggled with a precarious balance on his SF1000, giving him no chance of doing well and being able to contain Carlos Sainz at the end of the race for the top 10. « I'm not sure what happened because we didn't make any changes to the car, but it was extremely difficult to drive, says Leclerc. The balance was much worse than Friday and Saturday, when it was better than expected. »
