F1 2022 is revealed at Silverstone
The new era of Formula 1 is fast approaching. Highly anticipated, the famous technical revolution will take place in 2022 and this Thursday, July 15, F1 offered us a taste of the future of the premier discipline.

For the first time since the announcement in Austin (United States) in October 2019, the car responding to the new regulations was officially presented at scale 1 during an online presentation, accompanied by a physical launch in Silverstone (United Kingdom), where the model and its disco livery was revealed to the eyes drivers on the current grid.

« The coming era is preceded by a real craze, enthused Ross Brawn, sporting and technical director of the F1 Group. The 2021 campaign is already offering us an intense battle but the cars are still struggling to keep up. The 2022 regulations will allow drivers to really push themselves on the track. The combined effects of the new aerodynamic rules and financial fair play will give rise to a more balanced championship where the gaps will be reduced ».

As a reminder, this technical revolution aims to simplify the aerodynamics of cars in order to offer more spectacle on the track. Reducing the aerodynamics of the new single-seaters involves simplifying the front and rear wings, as well as the flat bottom, leading to a reduction in downforce of around 10%. The drivers will thus have less difficulty following each other in the race and the gaps will be narrower in theory.

Still in the aero section, the countless fins added to the sidepods of single-seaters in recent years are destined to disappear. Let's also remember the transition to 18-inch tires, still supplied by Pirelli, with fairing rims.

« 2022 will mark the start of a new era for F1 with one of the biggest regulation changes in the history of the sport, added Nikolas Tombazis, technical manager of the single-seater series.

The FIA has led a superb collective effort in partnership with F1 and the teams to identify the areas having the most impact on the ability of cars to easily follow each other. This new regulation, associated with the budgetary ceiling, will have a beneficial impact on the spectacle on the track while ensuring the viability of our sport. ».

The intentions of the various stakeholders are eminently laudable. It remains to be seen if the teams, whose ability to exploit the regulations in every corner, will not distort the spirit of the new laws by putting their finger on solutions that are so effective that they would create new disparities.
