F1 will change its regulations to make overtaking easier in 2019

La F1 does not intend to wait until 2021 to modify its regulations and resolve the problem of overruns. While the current single-seaters are very difficult to follow due to the aerodynamic disturbances they generate, the management of the discipline met to validate several changes which will be made to the regulations for the 2019 season in order to facilitate maneuvers.

After presenting the solutions to F1 teams at the Bahrain GP last weekend, the F1 Strategy Group, the F1 Commission and the Sporting Council met earlier this week to vote on the changes, as we we indicate in n°2163 of AUTOhebdo.

The front wings will thus be wider and will no longer have the numerous fins at their ends. The brake ducts will no longer be able to have aero appendages. As for the rear wings, their flap will be more imposing and deeper in order to optimize the effect of DRS.

However, most teams would be opposed to these changes.

“We are not convinced of the positive consequences of what is proposed, explained to us the general director of Renault sport racing Cyril Abiteboul. We support the objective which is to improve the show. Renault participated in the research and did not notice any major changes. »
