FIA sends new engine directive ahead of Interlagos

This is a friendly reminder sent to the stables for all purposes. Two weeks after a technical directive concerning the flow meter of current propellers which ignited the powder in Austin, the FIA has provided a new regulatory clarification on the engine plan ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Objective: to remind people that it is prohibited to burn anything other than gasoline in the combustion chamber of current propellants. For several years, certain teams have been suspected of using engine oil as fuel in order to obtain additional power, particularly during the last phase of qualifying.

The FIA has already cracked down by reducing the tolerance on oil consumption per 100 kilometers to 0,6 L in 2018. A limit which will also be lowered to 0,3 L next year. But suspicions remain, fueled by the performances of Ferrari after the summer break.

It is easy to interpret this warning as a new warning against the Scuderia, whose Power Unit remains the subject of the wildest rumors, but let's not be fooled: all the teams " make the borders ”, to use the words of an engine manufacturer, and flirt with legality in their permanent quest for performance. This is the DNA of F1
