The FIA sets its limits before the Austrian GP

Since the first tests, the drivers have taken advantage of the run-off zone of turn 8 of the Red Bull Ring by exceeding the limits of the track with all four wheels outside when only two are allowed. The stewards therefore had to cancel several times during qualifying, forcing the cars to restart for a new attempt. Before the start of the Austrian Grand Prix, the FIA wanted to clarify things.

Charlie Whiting, the Federation's racing director, has issued a notice to ensure that track limits are respected or face sanctions. “During the race, each driver who leaves the track at turn 8, visibly gaining an advantage, will be placed under investigation by the stewards. For example, we will not allow a driver to go off the track at turn 8 before passing another driver at turn 1. Drivers who leave the track several times at this location will also be placed under investigation. Drivers can only join the track by observing safety rules without being advantaged. »
