FIA to test protections for drivers

The tragic accident of Justin Wilson occurred on August 23 in Pocono (Pennsylvania) in IndyCar caused the FIA to react. The Federation plans to test different concepts of protection against debris for single-seater drivers. The tests will focus in particular on the solution proposed by Mercedes (visible in a video on the official F1 website).

The main challenges of these concepts are to ensure thatDebris is not thrown towards other cars or towards spectators in the event of an impact and access and extrication of a pilot victim of an accident is not slowed down.

La F1 had already experienced a similar incident with Felipe Massa who was hit by a spring during qualifying for the 2009 Hungarian GP. The Brazilian was seriously injured but fortunately had no after-effects.
