La Formula 1 has just announced the six locations which will host a Sprint Race format in 2023. From three meetings in 2021 and 2022, there are now six Grands Prix which will organize a qualifying race on Saturday.
Unsurprisingly, the Red Bull Ring (Austria) and Interlagos (Brazil) remain among the popular circuits for the Sprint event. Unlike 2022, there will be no Sprint at Imola, but four new features. The Baku track (Azerbaijan) will be the scene of the first Sprint Race of the season (and the first organized on a street circuit). Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium), whose contract was renewed for 2023, will also host a Sprint round, just like Austin (United States) and Losail (Qatar).

Established in 2021, the Sprint Races have undergone some changes in 2022, particularly in terms of the points scale. At present, no changes have been announced for next season, neither to the format nor to the scale. Formula 1 explained that the choice of circuits “is the result of research aimed at calculating the routes most suited to the Sprint format, particularly on overtaking possibilities, tight races and high-speed sections. »
“We have seen an overwhelmingly positive response to Sprint Races in the first two years of its operation, said Stefano Domenicali, president of Formula 1. We look forward to bringing even more action to fans with six events next year, including our first American Sprint in Austin. »
“Following strong collaboration between the FIA and FOM, and the approval of the World Motor Sport Council, we are pleased to reveal the six Sprints events for the 2023 season, said Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the FIA. We look forward to this exciting addition to the calendar. »
