Who could have predicted that Lance stroll would start on pole this Sunday for the Turkish Grand Prix this Sunday? Definitely no one.
At the end of a thrilling qualifying session, the Racing Point driver set the best time ahead of Max Verstappen (Red Bull) and his teammate Sergio Pérez. A pole that the Canadian retained despite the investigation by the commissioners for a possible non-compliance with the yellow flags.
Proof that these qualifications were full of twists and turns, Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) is only 6th behind Alex Albon (Red Bull) and Daniel Ricciardo (Renault). The Englishman who can be crowned this Sunday leaves in front Esteban Ocon (Renault) and Kimi Räikkönen (Alfa Romeo). His teammate Valtteri Bottas is only 9th. Antonio Giovinazzi (Alfa Romeo) completes the Top 10.
Respectively 12th and 14th at the end of qualifying, Sebastien Hag et Charles Leclerc gained places thanks to penalties imposed on drivers McLaren Lando Norris et Carlos Sainz. Both Ferrari will therefore start 11th and 12th this Sunday.
These sanctions also benefited Pierre Gasly (Alpha Tauri) and Kevin Magnussen (Haas), 13th and 14th on the grid now. Behind the two are the penalized Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris.
Daniil Kvyat (Alpha Tauri), Romain Grosjean (Haas) and the two drivers Williams, Nicholas latifi and George Russell bring up the rear.
