Renault's complaint deemed admissible by the commissioners

A few hours after the finish of the Styrian Grand Prix, a new regulatory battle was launched between Renault and RacingPoint. The French team lodged a complaint against the Silverstone team, arguing that the pink RP20 did not respect the sporting regulations with regard to certain parts, called listed.

The event commissioners decided a few minutes ago that the protest filed by the Diamond brand was admissible, since it met all the criteria of Article 13 of the FIA International Sporting Code.

We also know more about the parts in question, since it is the brake ducts of the RP20s which are targeted by Renault. Thus, these elements installed on the single-seaters n°11 of Sergio Pérez and n°18 of Lance stroll were placed under seal, before carrying out a more in-depth analysis.

In this context, Mercedes was integrated into the process, since the world champion team was asked to supply the brake ducts for the 10 W2019, the RP20 being often considered a clear imitation of the latter.

Remember that paragraph 2 c) of appendix 6 of the sporting regulations stipulates that “in the case of outsourcing the design (of a part), the third party must not be a competitor or a party that directly or indirectly designs listed parts for a competitor. »

The assessment of the situation by the FIA technical department will take several days, before a communication on the continuation of events is made public. Renault had indicated that it did not want to communicate on this complaint before the decision of the commissioners.
