« The miracle of Monza. » This is how the AT01 is nicknamed, theAlpha Tauri blue and white which, at the Temple of speed that is Monza (Italy), stood out in 2020 with Pierre Gasly at the wheel. There car will be visible during the Formula 1 exhibition in Madrid from March 24.

« There is nothing better than being identified as a Grand Prix winner in Formula 1, remembers Gasly. In my life, nothing has ever given me so much emotion. It was an incredible moment. » At the end of a crazy race, he took advantage of a safety car and a red flag to move up the 10 places that separated him from his dream. The Norman became the first Frenchman since 1996, with Olivier Panis at the Monaco Grand Prix, to take the checkered flag first in the premier category. A victory that felt like redemption after a difficult period for Gasly, getting the better of a McLaren and a pilot who also wanted to unblock his meter, Carlos Sainz.

« During the race, when I saw how things were looking, I said to myself “Okay, this is my time. This is my time to shine”. There was no way I was going to let this opportunity slip through my hands », he continues. It offers a first victory to the Faenza team since its change from Toro Rosso to AlphaTauri.

« I think we spent 25 laps in the lead, continues the Norman, now a driver for the team Alpine. They were long, but I have to say I loved every one of them. Being in control of that race was the best feeling I have ever had in Formula 1. »

Perhaps the Frenchman will have the opportunity to add a victory to this first success during his 2023 campaign with the A arrow. By his side, Esteban Ocon also made the Marseillaise resonate on the podium of the Hungarian Grand Prix the following year.
