Lando Norris extends for several years with McLaren

A few hours before the first runs of the Monaco Grand Prix, McLaren formalized the Briton's contract extension Lando Norris for several years.

Arriving in the fold of Woking in 2017 as a simulator and development driver, the Somerset native was promoted the following year to the rank of test and reserve driver before debuting in Grand Prix the following year within Zak Brown's training.

The former FIA champion F3 2017 European Championship and FIA vice-champion F2 2018 saw two podiums in F1 since his debut with McLaren, most recently in Emilia-Romagna at Imola earlier in the season.

Today team member of Daniel Ricciardo, Norris thus offers himself real stability for the years to come, McLaren clearly wishing to build around the 21-year-old driver.

“I am really happy to have extended my relationship with McLaren from 2022, says Norris. Having been with the team for almost five years, I truly feel like part of the family and couldn't imagine starting the next phase of my career anywhere else.

My commitment to McLaren is clear: my goal is to win races and become Formula 1 world champion and I want to do it with this team. Since 2017, our progress has been consistent and together we have clear ambitions for the future.

I would like to thank Zak and Andreas (Seidl, Team Principal, Editor's note) for the trust they have placed in me from the beginning, and to the whole team for giving me such a solid environment to continue my career. »

Daniel Ricciardo joined McLaren this year, following his time at Renault, for also a long-term contract with the Woking team.

“Our decision to confirm Lando's long-term future at McLaren was very simple, confirms Andreas Seidl. Lando has been impressive since his freshman year and his development as a driver since then has been evident.

With Lando and Daniel, we have an extremely talented driver duo, and this announcement is a strong signal of commitment to McLaren’s next chapter starting in 2022.”

Season where let's remember, F1 will experience a profound upheaval with the highly anticipated new technical regulations.
