Renault's future decided on Thursday?

The board meeting scheduled for Thursday should seal the future of the team Renault en Formula 1. Several names have been circulating recently to take over the French entity, at least the chassis activity based in enstone in England. On Wednesday, Gérard Lopez, an investor based in Luxembourg, even officially expressed for the first time his interest in buying the team.

« We seize opportunities. The current situation is such that there is an opportunity for new teams and new investors. We are in a period of change. If we took over Renault F1, it would be in our own right, as a manufacturer team », he explained in Monaco during the Motor Sport Business Forum.

David Richards, the director of Prodrive, is the other known candidate for the takeover of Renault F1. The Briton, who has already tasted F1 by briefly managing the Benetton and BAR teams, no longer hides his wish to return. “ We cannot comment on the Renault situation “, admitted a spokesperson for Prodrive, “ but it is well known that our intentions are to join F1. »

Bernie Ecclestone, the big financier of F1, also explained that in addition to these files, two other candidates were in the running. “ There is the Gérard Lopez group, there is David Richards and there are two other people “, he told the Times. “ I don't think there is any urgency to find an agreement but the sooner the better for everyone. »

Renault, through Carlos Ghosn, could thus announce its intentions for 2010 on Thursday unless additional time is necessary to finalize a transaction.
