Lawrence Stroll: 'I'm not in F1 for ego or to lose money'

The mid-year takeover of Force India opened the door to a better steering wheel for Lance stroll in 2019. His father Lawrence in fact acquired the structure of Vijay Mallya in financial difficulty with several shareholders so that the Canadian has a vehicle with the potential to allow him to achieve better results.

However, the businessman does not want to squander his cash on his new acquisition and intends to find a “business model” to obtain a balanced situation.

“I always thought that F1 was a discipline where you had to be an established constructor as Ferrari, Mercedes ou Renault to justify the amounts required to make it work, commented Lawrence Stroll at New York Times. There is no team that generates profits like in a traditional business. This is more of a game between manufacturers or a marketing exercise. Even though I am a big fan of the discipline, especially since my son is a driver, I had never thought about acquiring or even wanting a team. But there was this opportunity that presented itself. I'm not in F1 out of ego or to lose money. »

Lawrence Stroll especially hopes that Liberty Media will manage to achieve cost control and better distribution of revenues to help the most modest structures in the grid.

“There's still some clarity on how it's going to work, but I've had enough discussions with Chase (Carey, F1 boss) to understand the direction they want to go in., insisted the Canadian. Even though the team I acquired wasn't losing a ton of money, it was constantly underpowered. You just need to invest reasonable amounts and place a few people in the right places to fan the flame. With the right financing, the right direction and the right motivation, there is no reason not to have high expectations and aim for 3rd place (in the Manufacturers' Championship). »

Racing Point Force India only finished 7th this season after losing the points acquired during the year following the buyout. The team is expected to change its name next year.
