Australian Grand Prix to stay in Melbourne until 2025

After Adelaide from 1985 to 1995, Melbourne has continuously hosted the Australian Grand Prix since 1996. A destination that F1 will continue to visit until at least 2025, Liberty Media having logically confirmed this Thursday evening the extension to the calendar of the traditional opening event of the championship.

2020 will mark the 25th visit of the premier class of motorsport to Albert Park, for a round which will be organized from March 12 to 15, as recently announced by the organizers of the Australian Grand Prix.

“It’s a fantastic vote of confidence from Formula 1 to continue racing in Melbourne until, at least, 2025. said Martin Pakula, Victoria's Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events.

Our state delivers major events better than anywhere else in the world and I am delighted that Formula 1 has chosen to exercise its option to extend the contract and allow the Victorian Government and the Australian Grand Prix Corporation (AGPC) to continue to deliver more world-class events for Victoria.

The Formula 1 Grand Prix has contributed significantly to Melbourne's status as the sporting and major events capital of the world, and the event is a vital pillar of Melbourne's and Australia's international sporting calendar.

Beyond the direct benefits arising from the Formula 1 decision for Melbourne and Victoria, the extension of the contract until 2025 also provides benefits and confidence to the Victorian events industry and subcontractors associated with AGPC. »

Note that the extension until 2025 will allow the event to celebrate 30 years of Formula 1 in Melbourne.
