Change of plans for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. The Jeddah Corniche circuit will remain the meeting place for the Formula 1 for the next few years, until at least 2027. A period which was not planned in the initial plans, when the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix was made official at the end of 2020. Originally, Jeddah was to be a temporary solution before another circuit took over from 2023: Qiddiya, a new mega-sports complex designed from scratch, in the Saudi desert. Problem: this complex announced as ultra-futuristic is still under construction, and far from being finished...

To compensate for this, F1 has reached an agreement with the promoters and organizers of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix to stay in Jeddah for four more years. “It is important that the Jeddah circuit is future-proofed and that is why we have worked again with the FIA and Formula 1 to ensure that we have a circuit that will allow us to stage the sport in Jeddah while work begins on the Qiddiya circuit", said Martin Whitaker, Managing Director of the Saudi Motorsport Company.

“The Qiddiya Automotive Center is being designed to be the world leader in Formula 1 circuit design and entertainment. A unique and exciting project, Qiddiya will be a place that everyone will want to visit, but for now and for the immediate future, the world's attention and eyes will be on Jeddah and the Red Sea coastline this March . »

Date change for Jeddah in 2024

The city of Jeddah will therefore be the scene of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in the short and medium term, pending Qiddiya. In 2023, the circuit will be slightly different than in 2021 and 2022, with work carried out to improve safety, particularly in turns 21-22-23. In 2024, this will be the date that will change: to avoid the race taking place during Ramadan (which will take place between March 10 and April 9 in 2024), the Grand Prix will be moved to a later date.

So extension on the fast and dangerous circuit of Jeddah! Oh how good they smell of MBS's bloody and polluting dollars... but Formula 1 doesn't care at all!
