It's a story that has been going on since 1991, and which is not about to end. At least for the moment. There Formula 1 has just announced the extension of the contract for the Barcelona-Catalonia circuit, on behalf of the Spanish Grand Prix until 2026. This is also the case for the MotoGP also, whose first appearance was in 1996.

“We are delighted to announce this agreement with the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, details Stefano Domenicali, president and CEO of Formula 1, in the press release. I would like to thank the promoter and the authorities for their enthusiasm and commitment to maintaining Formula 1 in Barcelona, with the improvements that will be made to the circuit and facilities, and to continuing our long history together. Teams and drivers are still eager to race at the circuit and visit Barcelona, and Spanish fans will continue to see their national heroes up close, Fernando Alonso et Carlos Sainz »

Indeed, as part of this new multi-year agreement, improvements will be made to the track and facilities ahead of the race scheduled for May 22, 2022, including upgrades and improvements with a view to sustainability plans for the circuit.

This is the sixth Spanish circuit taken in Spain, after the illustrious Pedralbes, Jarama, Montjuïc, Jarama and Jerez. Co-record holder of the circuit with Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton won there this year for the sixth time – including the fifth in a row.

Pffffffff. So we left for five years on this circuit which was as boring as possible. For fifteen years, it's been the most "boring" GP of the season... However, there are some great circuits in Spain. No ?
