Red Bull's nice sleight of hand to not show the RB16B

The Austrian team debuted its new car on Wednesday at Silverstone, but used the 15 RB2019 as a decoy.

Red Bull's nice sleight of hand to not show the RB16B

All magicians will tell you: the main thing is to divert the audience's attention to better conceal the essential workings of the mechanics.

The team Red Bull obviously has some nice conjuror skills. As evidenced by their recent promotional filming at Silverstone (United Kingdom).

The objective was to release the RB16B unveiled last Tuesday but for the moment no image of the news car on track has not filtered. Proof that the photos shared on Tuesday were not very representative. So what is behind this car, which is largely inspired by the RB16 launched last year?

« The chassis is the same as that used in Abu Dhabi, said team principal Christian Horner. But all the peripheral elements have been reworked and changed. It's an update, a significant update, hence the name RB16B.

We checked that all systems were working properly, including those related to the new Honda propeller.

This promotional shoot allows the pilots to get in shape and get back to their bearings after the winter. It also gives them a first look at the new car. ».

Instead of publishing photos of the RB16B, Red Bull preferred to focus solely on the RB15. The Milton Keynes team (Great Britain) also brought its 2019 car to offer track time to rookie Sergio Pérez and reserve Alexander albon

Driving is not limited during tests with a car that is more than a year old, while teams are allowed only 100 km with their latest creation during promotional filming.

With its updated livery in 2021 colors, the RB15 was able to change things and satisfy the thirst for F1 aficionados. Without Red Bull showing its hand however.

As for the pilots, they, like good magicians, revealed nothing of the secrets of the RB16B, being content with the usual banalities.

Skillful.
