It will be 23 years next year that the F1 had no longer put its wheels on the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico. That year, in 1992, Nigel Mansell imposed his Williams with V10 engine Renault and was heading towards his long-awaited world title. In 2015, V6 turbo/hybrid single-seaters will be back, as F1 big money boss Bernie Ecclestone confirmed to Forbes this evening.
If the official announcement should come tomorrow, we already know that the Mexican circuit will have to undergo extensive redevelopment work. Holding this race in Mexico City was possible thanks to the help of Tavo Hellmund, who oversaw the Grand Prix of the Americas in Austin, Texas, and Alejandro Soberon, executive director of promoter CIE.
The Grand Prix could take place in November, on a date very close to the Grand Prix of the Americas at the Circuit of The Americas in Austin. More information is expected to be released tomorrow and final negotiations are still underway.
