The 2021 regulations determining Vettel's future

In the Lombard madness of Monza, the SF90s of Charles Leclerc, recent winner at Spa in Belgium, and Sebastian Vettel, will be awaited by thousands of fans impatient to see a Ferrari on the top step of the Monza podium, which has not happened since 2010 and a success of Fernando Alonso.

In addition to this immediate future on Sunday mid-afternoon, it is the question of Sebastian Vettel's more distant future which was addressed at a press conference yesterday. The German, quadruple world champion with Red Bull, has failed since 2015 to return to the top of the F1 with Maranello, and will reach the end of his contract at the end of 2020.

The former king of the discipline admits that part of his future will undoubtedly be conditioned by the next 2021 technical regulations, which should offer largely revised single-seaters and closer competition between the teams.

« Everything below is based on the new rules, so obviously you take a look, admits Vettel. As I said, I think that sport has a huge chance to position itself in a better... or to be in a better state.

That said, not everything is bad right now, we need to remember that. It’s a good balance, but every change is an opportunity, a chance to do better or worse and we hope to do better. »

Vettel believes that the 2021 regulations still remain a little too vague to give a first judgment on the sketches of single-seaters seen earlier in the summer. “So I don't know if the images we've seen are actually what the cars will be, because, as far as I know, there are no regulations for 2021 yet, comments the Ferrari driver.

So it's a bit pointless to post pictures, but maybe that's what some people would like the cars to look like. There is a great chance to improve things. I think we as drivers have covered our main points.

Obviously, it was very kind and very respectful of those who asked for our opinion for the first time in this type of decision. We really try to keep things simple. We want a closer race.

From our side, I think it's very clear, but whatever the car, it's a bit secondary. I think if the racing is good and such, the cars will look good too. »
