Halo and Aeroscreen have long been the two cockpit protection systems for single-seaters F1 seen since the FIA and the governing bodies of the discipline announced that they wanted to move forward with the introduction of such a system.
However, last April, at the end a meeting of the Strategic Group and the F1 Commission in Paris, this is another solution, called Shield (or shield), which took precedence over the Halo. The FIA then announced the first tests in 2017, before a potential installation in 2018.
The Shield's first outing on track during a race weekend will therefore take place this Friday in free practice at Silverstone, with Sebastian Vettel at the wheel of his Ferrari SF70H equipped with this device.
