The fate of the 2020 British GP will be known by the end of April

While all motor competitions are suspended until June 30 in the United Kingdom due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the Silverstone circuit and the F1 announced in a press release that the fate of the 2020 British GP would be decided by the end of April.

Our British colleagues from the BBC report as well as the two entities “are in close dialogue” to find out if the event, one of the most popular on the calendar, can be maintained on the weekend of July 17-18-19.

To compare, one of the most important aeronautical shows in the world, that of Farnborough (United Kingdom) which was to take place from July 20 to 24, has already been postponed.

« We are well aware that certain British sporting events scheduled for July have already made decisions but their logistics and the sporting agreements which govern them are different from those at Silverstone, the press release specifies.

Our calendar gives us until the end of April to decide the matter definitively. Priority will be given to the safety of our fans, colleagues, as well as members of the F1 community. We remain in contact with the relevant authorities.”

Silverstone is currently in 4th position on an increasingly uncertain 2020 calendar, the first 8 rounds of which have already been canceled or postponed. The season is supposed to open in Canada on June 14, before returning to Europe for the Grands Prix of France (June 28) and Austria (July 5).

The last meeting of the World Motor Sport Council approved the possibility for F1 and the FIA to modify the 2020 calendar without going through a vote. Chase Carey, CEO of the Formula One Group, recently said he wanted to aim for a program of 15-18 meetings in 2020, with a kickoff during the summer, without further details.
