Vietnam still in the running for 2020

Since the end of the Malaysian Grand Prix adventure, South-East Asia only has the Singapore round as the Malaysian Grand Prix. F1 integrated into the calendar. A situation which could quickly evolve since Vietnam appears to be an increasingly plausible candidate.

Visiting the country, Charlie Whiting, F1 race director, was able to observe a potential site for the construction of the complex hosting F1, around ten kilometers from Hanoi. The 2020 horizon seems more relevant than ever for the arrival of the discipline in the country.

“The design is at an advanced stage, emphasizes Whiting, quoted by Reuters. As far as I know, they are aiming for a grand prix in 2020, which shouldn't be a problem based on previous experiences.

It is an open site where the pit building will be constructed. Part of the track, which does not exist at the moment, will be built. But I understand that it will become a road afterwards. »

F1 is trying to diversify its calendar a little more since taking control of Liberty Media. Miami in Florida is also one of the candidate cities, but the city on the edge of the Atlantic was forced to postpone the discussions, against a backdrop of local discontent.
