Bottas' steering wheel modified after Hungary start incident

Valtteri Bottas will no longer have to fear the sudden and potentially disturbing triggering of a parasitic light signal on his steering wheel a few fractions of a second before the start of a Grand Prix. Formula 1

Trapped by this visual interference two weeks ago in Budapest, the Finn was very close to stealing the start before being slowed down by the activation of the anti-skid system on his W11. 2nd alongside his teammate Lewis Hamilton on the grid, Bottas found himself 7th at the end of the first lap and had lost all hope of fighting for victory.

« We analyzed the situation in detail, as we usually do with everything., confided the pilot Mercedes ahead of the British Grand Prix. These were simply the lights associated with the engine speed on the screen. We have made changes to ensure that this does not happen again because such a source of deconcentration can lead to errors ».

Bottas also returned to the problem with his fuel system which potentially handicapped him during qualifying at the Hungaroring. The Finn had in fact participated in the session with 2 kilos of extra fuel and ultimately lost by 0 to Hamilton.

« The team told me it cost something like 8 hundredths per lap and the problem showed up after Q1, explained Bottas. I am confident that the team has made the necessary fixes. Because it’s not an ideal situation when you’re fighting with tenths ».

Bottas is currently 2nd in the Drivers' standings, having relinquished the championship lead to his teammate in Hungary.
