The return to Mexico was somewhat eventful for Charles Leclerc. Having made a mistake in the Stadium during the first free practice sessions, the little prince of Monaco was forced to return to his stand to repair his SF21 and in particular his rear wing, damaged after his contact with the wall.
Back on the track, the Monegasque then set the 8th fastest time, 1” behind. Valtteri Bottas for a best lap in 1’19”667. During the next session, the pilot Ferrari did better with the 7th chronometric reference but still 1“3 behind the leader, named Max Verstappen this time. A gap which did not really worry the teammate of Carlos Sainz at the end of this first day of training.
« Our sessions were rather different, underlines Charles Leclerc. During the morning, there was a lot of dust on the track which made it very slippery and difficult, especially when braking. The evolution of the track was significant between FP1 and FP2. Lap after lap you could feel yourself going faster. It’s still difficult to compare ourselves to others and see where we really stand. For the rest, we must concentrate on achieving the best possible lap. I am convinced that we have the potential to do a good job this weekend. »

In Mexico, Charles Leclerc hopes to continue this good dynamic which has seen him secure 4 Top 5s in the last five Grands Prix. He even had two very good performances in Turkey and the United States with two 4th places.
