Leclerc on Ferrari rumors: “It’s hard not to think about it”

Promoted to Formula 1 at Sauber after winning the GP3 Series championships in quick succession and Formula 2 from his first attempt, the Monegasque had a solid but discreet start before a change of settings in Baku allowed him to fully express his talent.

Including 6th place at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix at the end of April, Leclerc scored 4 points finishes in 5 races. Enough to attract the eye of the Team of which he has been a member of the young pilot sector since 2016.

It is increasingly rumored that Ferrari is preparing to break with its traditional mode of operation which consists of only signing experienced drivers, to replace Kimi Räikkönen at the end of his contract with the hopeful Sauber.

« I don't think about it too much, although it's hard not to think about it, recognized the main interested party when he was questioned on the subject in the Spielberg paddock. I see the rumors around and it makes me very happy because it has always been a dream to drive for Ferrari. If one day it happens, it would be incredible. But for now, I'm trying to focus on this season and not distract myself too much with what might happen in 2019 ».

Räikkönen, for his part, had difficulty hiding his annoyance when asked about his future in Formula 1, which some in the British press have mentioned on the side of McLaren earlier this week.

« As usual, we hear and read a lot of things that I don't really want to comment on., declared the Finn ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix. I have absolutely no interest in getting into that. We'll see what happens. Anyway, you journalists write what you want, regardless of the truth of the facts ».

Fake news, this evil of the century!
