Leclerc wants explanations after his incident with Magnussen

Huddled to the suction behind Magnussen on the Suzuka starting straight, the Sauber driver moved to the right to begin an overtaking attempt at the start of the second lap. His competitor Haas did the same a fraction of a second later, Leclerc unable to avoid contact which damaged both cars.

Despite the Monegasque's rants on the radio and the wrath of his boss Frédéric Vasseur, Magnussen escaped the penalty. The race officials argued that the Dane had not intentionally blocked his rival. A verdict that Leclerc refuses to accept two weeks later.

« I don't understand the decision, explained the person from the paddock of the United States Grand Prix. The explanation was to say that Kevin had not seen me and therefore his action was not intentional. I absolutely do not agree. I saw the video and he was clearly looking in his mirrors. To me, that was absolutely what he wanted to do.

I never could have thought he was going to shift. I didn't quite understand what he was trying to do. I will talk about it at the Drivers briefing on Friday »

If Leclerc assures that he is not going to change the way he approaches duels on the track, he nevertheless recognizes that he will adapt his approach when it comes time to come up against the spicy Magnussen again.

« You always have to be aggressive, whatever the driver you are facing but it is certain that now I will perhaps take a little more margin when I find myself against Kevin because you never really know what to expect with him ».
