Maybe it's time to shine for Team Ferrari, during the third round of the season, in Australia. Despite a start to the season largely dominated by Red Bull, the Italian team feels that there is a chance at Albert Park. Charles Leclerc has signed the best time in Free Practice 2 with a 1’17″277.

In Bahrain and Jeddah, the Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez were untouchable, unattainable. The first day of the Australian Grand Prix is over and the Ferraris seemed to have a greater pace than during the first two races of the season. What could potentially worry the Austrian team? In any case, this is the feeling of Charles Leclerc following the first two test sessions in Melbourne.

“I feel good at the moment. We had a positive day from the first laps in FP1 until the end of FP2, so it's a good start, explained the Monegasque in the mixed zone. However, we have to continue to work very hard because I am sure we will have surprises tomorrow, and there is no reason why we should be a little ahead compared to everyone else. »

Lots of optimism at Ferrari ahead of Sunday's race, even if caution remains the key word when it comes to Red Bull for Charles Leclerc: “They (Red Bull) haven't pushed yet, so we have to wait and see where their potential is, but I think they are still ahead. But we may have our best chance this weekend since the start of the season.”

Watch out for mistakes on the track

As we saw throughout these two Free Practice sessions, the Albert Park track is complicated to get to grips with. The Melbourne track has, in fact, fooled more than one pilot during the first day. “It’s a very difficult route with fairly high kerbs and the wind too. There is only one trajectory, every time you go a little off the trajectory you lose a lot of grip,” underlines Leclerc.

This Australian Grand Prix is then the perfect opportunity for Ferrari to deprive Max Verstappen of a new success, which would allow him to equal his record for the number of consecutive victories (10).
