Conditions for obtaining the F1 Super License relaxed

An essential key to accessing the world of Grands Prix, the Super License F1 will become more accessible after the official amendment published last Wednesday of Appendix L of the FIA International Sporting Code

Keen to minimize the impact of the current health and economic crisis for young pilots, the Federation has set up a specific working group whose avenues of reflection have resulted in an update of the legal texts.

Approved during the previous World Motor Sport Council, these amendments concern in particular the lowering of the points threshold necessary to obtain the Super License, which goes from 40 to 30 points. The FIA must, however, consider that the applicant was unable to obtain the 40 units initially required for reasons beyond his control.

Another measure now engraved in law: the extension of the validity period of the points registered to obtain the precious sesame. The window is extended from three to four years and the FIA will take into account the best three years of this period, which includes the 2020 campaign.

These regulatory adjustments have not failed to provoke a reaction from certain drivers, who suggest that it will allow wealthy riders to more easily access the premier category at the expense of other talents.
