Drivers shared on radio limitations

The qualifying system will not be the only change in the regulations for the 2016 season of F1. The FIA also plans to further limit radio exchanges between the driver and his team to ensure that he drives the car “without outside help” and that the strategy depends more on the competitor.

Nico Rosberg particularly expects the races to be more difficult. “It will be harder at times because we will only be able to rely on what was planned before the race. It’s going to have a big influence.”, estimated the pilot Mercedes cited by ESPN.

Conversely, Fernando Alonso believes that the new regulations on radio exchanges will not change the appearance of the Grands Prix. “I don’t think it will change much. Bans are limited to messages received, not those sent., explained the pilot McLaren.

The double world champion nevertheless questioned the merits of this rule. “It's a strange decision in the age of communication... I don't believe it will give the drivers more decision-making power or more influence on the race. On the contrary, the briefings will be stricter and the room for maneuver will be reduced”, said the Asturian.

Lewis Hamilton disagrees with his former teammate over the consequences of this rule. “It will have a big impact… So there will be a lot more things to remember.” This will even apply to strategy… It will be difficult but it could make the races more interesting”, commented the Briton, quoted on the official F1 website.

The FIA had already limited radio conversations during the 2014 season by making performance-related posts banned.
