Tires chosen for Melbourne

As desired the new F1 sporting regulations for the 2016 season, drivers must send Pirelli and the FIA their choice of tires from the different compounds made available by the Italian manufacturer.

For the first event of the year in Melbourne, Australia, the Milanese firm supplied the medium, soft and super-soft tires. In addition to the two trains nominated by the Italian brand for the race (one of which will necessarily be used), and another, of the softest compound available (here the super-soft), which can only be used in Q3 , the competitors have made their selection for the remaining games, of which here is the breakdown by driver:

Among the favorites, Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) is the driver to have used the fewest medium tires (only one set), just like Massa and Bottas in Williams, against two for Nico Rosberg or the drivers Ferrari et Red Bull. At Williams, Red Bull, Toro Rosso, McLaren or even Renault, the drivers relied on an additional set of super-soft tires compared to the two leading teams.

Apart from Hamilton and Rosberg at Mercedes, Nasr and Ericsson (Sauber) and the duo Grosjean – Gutiérrez at Haas F1 Team did not make the same selection within a team.
