The Romans don't want F1

The possibility of a Grand Prix F1 in Rome continues to take its toll. However, a year ago, the city's mayor reported having signed an agreement in principle with Bernie Ecclestone for a race from 2012.

This Tuesday, Gazzetta dello Sport reveals the results of a survey through which the Romans show their strong opposition to this possibility. For 85% of people who gave their opinion, this Grand Prix has more disadvantages than advantages. The Romans are afraid that the race will damage traffic in the city, and that the noise will be unbearable.

“The inhabitants of Eur (southern part of Rome, affected by the project) who are showing up are only a minority,” reacted Maurizio Flammini, promoter of the event. The referendum is designed to give voice to opponents of this Grand Prix. »

But there are many oppositions, since Stefano Domenicali, Ferrari team manager, recently declared that the Team did not want two F1 Grands Prix to be organized in Italy.

“Our sport is seeing the number of countries hosting a Grand Prix increase and we are in favor of it. Consequently, it will become impossible to organize two races in the same country. » Monza being so far unshakable on the F1 calendar, it seems difficult for Rome to find its place.
