The scenarios for Lewis Hamilton's coronation in Mexico

The Foro Sol could well ignite again on Sunday evening to celebrate a sixth world crown for Lewis Hamilton. The Briton is in fact in a position to be titled for the fifth time in six years, beaten in 2016 by his teammate at Mercedes Nico Rossberg.

For this, Hamilton must score 14 points more than his last rival, his current teammate Valtteri Bottas to secure a 78-point lead. Several scenarios are emerging to definitively seal the 2019 honor roll after Mercedes' coronation in the Manufacturers' ranking after the Japanese Grand Prix.

– In the event of Lewis Hamilton's victory, plus the point for the best lap in the race, Valtteri Bottas must finish on the podium to delay the deadline. Lewis Hamilton can also be titled by winning without the point for the best lap in the race, in which case, Valtteri Bottas should not finish better than 5th.

– With the fastest lap point, a second place in Mexico may be enough for Hamilton if Bottas does not enter the top 7. The Finn can also postpone the award of the title in the event of a non-enhanced 2nd place. 'Hamilton with an 8th place with the best lap.

– The last step of the Mexican podium can also offer the title to Lewis Hamilton. In this case, and with the bonus point for the Briton, Bottas must enter the top 8. If the latter takes the best lap, a tenth place could postpone the conclusion of the championship.

Mercedes has won twice in Mexico since the advent of Power Units, in 2015 (Nico Rosberg) and 2016 (Lewis Hamilton), before Max Verstappen pocket the last two editions with Red Bull. And the Silver Arrows will undoubtedly have a hard time facing both Ferrari de Sebastian Vettel et Charles Leclerc, expected as the fastest by the German clan.
