Set back compared to Ferrari et Red Bull, Mercedes planned to take advantage of the opportunities that were going to present themselves in the race this Sunday. And the least we can say is that the German team did perfectly well thanks to Lewis Hamilton and George Russell during the Bahrain Grand Prix.
Left to rank respectively 5e and 6e, the two Englishmen took advantage of the two retirements of the Red Bull drivers, Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez, at the end of the event to finish at 3e and 4e positions thus offering important points to the reigning champion team.
« Congratulations to Ferrari! I'm very happy to see them doing things well again. It's a historic team so it's good to see them back, to see Carlos and Charles at the forefront, Lewis Hamilton first wanted to say before talking about his Sunday.
It was a very difficult race. We suffered during testing. This is the best result we could have achieved. It's obviously a shame for the other two drivers (Verstappen and Pérez) but we tried our best and we are very happy to get these points »
Lewis: “Wooooo. Let's go. Let's go. Thank you so much for the hard work. I appreciate it.”
A long way to go still. But just the starting point we needed.

Aware of his team's delay compared to the leading group, the seven-time world champion wanted to be reassuring but understands that regaining the top places will not be an easy task. “ I hope, he explained when discussing the possibility of getting back on track. I know the team is working very hard at the factory but we will not reverse the trend very quickly. However, we know that we will keep our heads down and continue to work as a team. There is still a long way to go »
