Lewis Hamilton penalized at German GP

Mercedes F1 has just confirmed that the gearbox of the W05 of Lewis Hamilton was changed after being damaged following the Briton's exit from the track in turn 13 during qualifying for the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim. The 2008 world champion was trapped by a broken front-right brake disc, condemning him to 15th place on the grid. Nico Rosberg's rival must now fall back to 20th position and could have feared leaving the pits following the change in the braking system.

However, the FIA will allow Lewis Hamilton to start from 20th place on the starting grid for the German Grand Prix despite the change of brakes from Brembo to Carbon Industrie. The commissioners relied on a point in the regulations stipulating that such a replacement must offer identical weight, inertia and function. The Mercedes driver will therefore start from 20th place.

The start of the German Grand Prix will be at 14 p.m. and will be followed live on AUTOhebdo.fr. Photos of the event can be viewed on this link.
