AUTOhebdo has been telling you this for several weeks now in its columns, the negotiations for a takeover of Lotus by Renault are moving forward (see Ah n°2026). A waiting situation for the stableenstone still disrupted in Belgium by extra-sporting concerns, and the complaint filed by Charles Pic for unfulfilled contract (see also Ah n°2026).
This Friday at a press conference, Matthew Carter, general manager of Lotus, however indicated that a takeover by Renault was not the only avenue to secure the future of the formation of Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado.
“We've had financial problems, and financial issues are all over the press, everyone knows about them. We work hard behind the scenes, Carter explains. None of the problems have become prohibitive, and we are still here and still racing. We will continue to do so.
The negotiations referred to are continuing behind the scenes. I hope that this will secure our future in one way or move forward in another and when I say this, it means that we have more than one option to ensure the future of the team. And for the rest of the races this season, we have a budget and we will work with it. »
Lotus remains on a podium won by Romain Grosjean at Spa in Belgium, and the two E23 Hybrids finished in 7th and 8th positions in the second free practice session at Monza. The Frenchman showed himself confident before the Italian weekend.
