Lotus aims for third place

It was a reassured Lotus team that left the Barcelona paddock this week. After the first points of Romain Grosjean during the Spanish Grand Prix last weekend, Pastor Maldonado finished first in the two days of testing on Tuesday and Wednesday on the same Catalan track. Enough to give new impetus to Gérard Lopez's men.

“We want to fight for third or fourth place, explains the boss and Team Principal of the stable. A quarter of the championship has passed. So we must continue to work. We managed to qualify 5th and we could have theoretically finished 5th or 6th, which shows we have a good car. It would be a shame to abandon the rest of the season. Romain had an electronic problem during the race in Barcelona (faulty sensor on the E22, Editor’s note). Without it, the ending would undoubtedly have been different. »

Gérard Lopez, however, remains realistic about the capabilities of his car. " We have a worse car than Mercedes, everyone is behind Mercedes, but quite close to Red Bull. Which means we can compete and beat just about every other car. » Clear allusion to the Team Ferrari of Fernando Alonso and Kimi Räikkönen, who were behind Grosjean's Lotus at the start of the race in Barcelona.
