In Austria, where Charles Leclerc won, Fernando Alonso passed for all his emotions. After an honorable 9th place in qualifying, the double world champion was forced to follow the Sprint Race on television because of a wayward A522 which never got started. A terrible cold shower for the pilot Alpine forced to start the Austrian Grand Prix on Sunday from the back of the grid.

« I think we lost about fifty points this year between reliability issues and bad luck, he regretted at the microphone of Canal + after this new disillusionment. My level of performance is perhaps one of the best of my career but the points are not keeping up. Unfortunately the two don't go together at the moment but I'm very happy with the work done so far."

Having fallen back into the depths of the grid, Fernando Alonso then took his troubles patiently to try to climb back up the slope. On a circuit where overtaking is made easier by 3 consecutive DRS zones, the Asturian showed off his excellent “ performance level » current to sign a very nice comeback from 19th to 10th position, all with an unexpected additional stop which almost cost him dearly.

« A point is better than nothing, even more so knowing that we started from the last line, he savored. I think it was one of my best races this season apart from Silverstone last weekend. We were fighting for sixth or seventh position, but I felt strange vibrations on the tires we had just fitted after our second Virtual Safety Car stop. As the latter was still in order, we decided to stop again to put on a new set of tires.

Unfortunately, we lost a few positions with this extra stop and we had to fight until the last laps. At the finish, we managed to finish tenth position. Scoring just one point in this race is a bit of a shame, but we can be very happy with our overall pace and performance as a team."

In the points after starting from the back of the grid, Fernando Alonso continued in Austria with a 6e Consecutive Grand Prix in the Top 10. A first this year.
