Magnussen didn't get the car he expected

Thursday was not the easiest day in the clan Renault at Monaco. In turn, Jolyon Palmer and Kevin Magnussen made a mistake on the rail yesterday, losing precious driving time on the Monaco turnstile. Worse for the Dane, the latter complained of a car below his expectations, after the promises seen at the Barcelona tests after the Spanish Grand Prix.

“This day has not been the best for us, admits the former pilot McLaren. We thought we had reached a milestone during the Barcelona tests, but we did not find the car we expected on this circuit.

It’s a shame that the second session was cut short. I simply understeered into the wall. When turning, I had no grip. The data showed that I wasn't going any faster than the previous lap, so that's frustrating. Fortunately, the damage was limited to the front wing, so the job will be quite easy for my team of mechanics. »

On the occasion of this round in the Principality, Renault has also decided to bring an improved V6 turbo/hybrid Power Unit. If Daniel Ricciardo had been selected in Red Bull Racing (which uses French blocks rebadged TAG Heuer), it’s Kevin Magnussen who was able to benefit from it in preview within Renault Sport F1 team.

“The latest engine specification has certainly brought something, but we still have work to do on the settings. We also need to find more support. » concluded the Dane. The third free practice session will begin tomorrow at 11 a.m. before qualifying scheduled for 14 p.m. which will be followed live with commentary on our website.
