Marco Mattiacci: “Innovation is the basis of success. »

Two voices have been opposing each other for several weeks regarding the freezing of engine development rules in F1. On the one hand, Mercedes who does not wish to open the breach and sticks to its position, arguing that costs will explode. On the other Ferrari and Renault (especially via the stable Red Bull) who are campaigning for a review of the regulations and the opportunity to have possible updates during the season of the V6 turbo / hybrid Power Units, introduced in 2014. Such a modification, however, requires unanimity within the teams. Marco Mattiacci, Team Principal of the Team Ferrari insists. “I think honestly, from our point of view, there is not an increase in costs, explains the Italian on Sky Sports. The other argument is that if I had the opportunity to update my engines, perhaps the teams I supply, would have scored points and could have benefited from additional revenue. For a small team, not having the opportunity to catch up is much more dramatic than for a large team. »

The Italian also wants to point out that he does not want a global change in the rule. “It is important to try to do our best, because we firmly believe that innovation is the basis of the success of Formula 1 and that is what we demand. We are a company that makes engines, so I think it is important that innovation is at the center of this Formula 1. We are absolutely committed to the principles of these new rules, we are not asking for change, we are asking for adjustment end by applying the same principles. »

Ferrari, like Renault, were largely dominated in terms of engines by the German bloc during this first season of the V6 turbo/hybrids and it is clearly not certain that the off-season will be enough to reduce the gap.
