Mark Webber wins at the Nürburgring

Mark Webber, on pole position for the first time, is ideally placed for the first victory of his career in Formula 1. But, lighter and equipped with Srec, Rubens Barrichello, who received a touch from the Australian, took the lead of the pack. Behind, Sebastian Vettel is also losing ground, while Lewis Hamilton takes blows and has to return to the pits, even though he was in the leading trio. At the end of the first lap, Barrichello leads ahead of Webber, Kovalainen, Button, Massa and Vettel.

But the start condemned Webber, who was penalized with a pit stop for his contact with Barrichello. The latter refueled at the same time and therefore left the lead to the Australian. The latter can do a few quick laps at the front before returning in turn to refuel, at the very moment when Sébastien Bourdais abandoned.

The Brawn strategy will facilitate the work of Webber, then second and who connects fast laps to get back on Barrichello. The latter, like Button, stopped mid-race for a second stop, part of a three-stop strategy. Second for a few seconds, Sutil saw his weekend tarnished when Räikkönen caught him at the exit of the pits. The German had to return to Force India to change the nose, while the Finn gave up shortly after.

Nothing is going well for the Brawn, who, after three quarters of the race, are in 2nd and 3rd position. On a track that was too cold, Barrichello and Button had to slalom in a straight line to warm up their tires in order to gain grip. Far from it, Mark Webber, despite a third pit stop (including two refuelings), prances in the lead and flies towards his first victory.

After a third stop, Barrichello and Button gave up their 2nd and 3rd places, letting Vettel, Massa and Rosberg pass. A surprising Rosberg who, starting 15th, finds himself among the best. Behind the Brawn, now 5th and 6th, -Jenson Button having taken advantage of the pit stop to overtake his teammate- Alonso puts the pressure on to climb into the top 6. Eighth, Kovalainen struggles to contain the attacks of Glock and Heidfeld to conquer eighth place.

But as the rain ultimately did not fall, the positions remained frozen. Mark Webber therefore won the first victory of his career, during his 132nd Grand Prix. Second, Sebastian Vettel brings a second consecutive double for Red Bull, which is getting closer to the constructor's championship. And, for the drivers' title, if Button keeps his hand, Webber places himself among the candidates.
