This is the 11th time that the Formula 1 travels to the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin. In a season ultra-dominated by Max Verstappen (Red Bull), the first two lines can surprise and augur a beautiful spectacle when the lights go out.

Indeed, Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) will start in pole position, with the McLaren de Lando Norris. Behind them will be the eight-time world champion Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) as well as the only non-Red Bull driver to have won a Grand Prix so far in 2023, Carlos Sainz (Ferrari). George Russell (Mercedes) set the 5th time, just ahead of Max Verstappen.
The French Pierre Gasly et Esteban Ocon (Alpine) will aim for points with a start in 7th and 8th place. This weekend, Pierre Gasly is wearing a helmet bearing the image of François Cevert, who died 50 years ago during testing at Watkins Glen (New York) aboard his Tyrrell.
Don't be surprised by the 16 cars that will line up on the starting grid before the start at 21 p.m. In fact, both Haas as well as both Aston Martin will start from the pit lane after changing mechanical parts.
