Max Verstappen keeps his crown at Castellet. The Dutchman won for the 7th time this season already in France. Starting in second position, the world champion took advantage of Charles Leclerc in the third sector to take control of the race. Before the pilot of the Team was forced to give up, Max Verstappen could not overtake him.

« We had a good pace from the start, I put pressure on Charles, but with this heat, the tires overheat a lot, so I was never able to attempt a maneuver, only once in the 11th turn. But we tried to stay calm and stay close “, explains Verstappen.

Tire management crucial for Verstappen

In anticipation of tire degradation, the driver Red Bull had been called two laps before Leclerc's accident (18th lap) in the pit lane. But once his opponent was down, Max Verstappen had no difficulty securing victory. “ The car was fast today and of course no luck for Charles, I hope he is ok. From there I almost did my race, I took care of the tires because the pit lane was very long, you couldn't make another stop so you had to stay out, but the tires went used a lot », Analyzes the winner of the French Grand Prix.

A triumph without competition, but not without flavor for the world champion. “ I was just trying to get as many points as possible, details the Red Bull driver. Sometimes you just have to back off and maybe wait until the race is over and that's what we did and I mean we have a lot of other races coming up where you have to score points so today was a big day. »
