McLaren plans to win in Shanghai

Despite being behind on the grid, the McLaren drivers believe they have a good chance of winning tomorrow. The Woking men are banking on better performances than their rivals.

McLaren plans to win in Shanghai

The qualifications are rather disappointing for McLaren, Jenson Button only starting from fifth place while Lewis Hamilton will only start from seventh place after being penalized by five places. However, the qualifying result offered several surprises and the British drivers intend to take advantage of them. “I’m obviously a little disappointed but our race pace seems very good”, assures Jenson Button. “I hope I can have a good race starting from fifth place, my goal will be to fight for victory. It won't be easy but we think we'll be faster than most of the cars in front of us. The surprise comes from Kamui (Kobayashi) who seems to have a very good level on long relays. »

Lewis Hamilton will have his work cut out to get back to the front starting from seventh place, but the McLaren driver also thinks he has a good chance of winning. “We have a good car but I will have to work hard to move up the rankings”, comments the 2008 world champion. “As long as I’m moving up in the peloton, I’ll be happy. Even though Jenson and I are a little behind where we would like, we can make it happen. There is a group in front of us but we are well positioned in relation to our level in the race. In addition, it is a circuit where you can overtake. »
