McLaren: Heidfeld, serious option

Kimi Räikkönen, if he wants to participate in the 2010 season of Formula 1, does not have many solutions. If some teams had shown interest, the fees requested by the Finn turned out to be far too high. And, on a sporting level, the 2007 world champion had no trouble recognizing that the only acceptable option was to return to McLaren-Mercedes.

But the Woking team does not want to break the bank in this operation and prefers a driver motivated by race points more than by money. Kimi Räikkönen's salary demands could therefore push McLaren to turn to an equally experienced driver, perhaps less talented, but more concerned.

Nick Heidfeld could therefore be a solution of choice for the British team. On the one hand, the German driver expressed the fact that he was not closing the door to any team. On the other hand, Martin Whitmarsh (team manager) confided that ?Quick Nick? was, in his eyes, the most underestimated driver on the board.

This transfer could be a return to favor for Nick Heidfeld, McLaren's great hope at the end of the 90s. Winner of the international championship of F3000 in 1999 with the McLaren Junior Team, the German then made his debut in Formula 1, in 2000, with Cheers GP, while Kimi Räikkönen joined McLaren, upon the departure of Mika Häkkinen, in 2001. At the end of this 2009 season, the Woking team can bring back one of its two former foals.
