Here is a junior program that we no longer used to talk about: the McLaren Driver Development program. Unlike other teams like Red Bull ou Ferrari, that of Woking is having difficulty propelling its young talents up to the premier category. It is for this reason that the management of the Oranges decided to put its program at the center of its priorities.

For this new start, McLaren brought back a veteran of the house in the person of Emanuele Pirro. Test driver for the English team in the past, former driver of F1 and 5 times winners of 24 Hours of Le Mans with Audi, the Italian will monitor the project.

« I am excited about this mission for several reasons, Explain the Transalpine. McLaren played a crucial role in my career by giving me the opportunity to earn an F1 drive and progress to a higher level working alongside Senna, Cheers and Shepherd.

Along with my team, my role will be to create a cutting-edge program, select the best drivers possible and provide them with all the tools they need to best exploit their talent. Furthermore, I will integrate them into the mission, vision and values of McLaren and I hope that one of them will evolve within the F1 team."

As part of this program, “ McLaren will support young drivers in their development, from karting to professional driving, with the aim of facilitating the progression of emerging talents towards F1. » In addition, the British manufacturer will support professional drivers racing in other categories, offering them the opportunity to gain experience behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car.

The McLaren Driver Development program is therefore formed by Pato O'Ward (Arrow McLaren driver in IndyCar), Alex Palou (reserve driver in F1 and already a McLaren Young Driver) and the young hopeful Ugo Ugochukwu.
